The Department of Physics

At the Department of Physics we carry out research and education in various fields, including optical physics, nonlinear physics, plasma physics, general relativity, condensed matter physics and nanotechnology, photonics, biological physics, complex networks, space physics and physics education.

At present about 100 individuals work at the Department of Physics, professors, lecturers, researchers, guest professors, postdocs, doctoral students, and technical and administrative staff. Along with the research subjects above, we are also responsible for the engineering program in physics and the master’s program in physics. We also provide courses in physics within other programs at Umeå University. In 2018, 1055 students read one or more courses in physics!

Below you can explore more about the department, like for example our research subjects, the courses we provide or interesting articles about our research. Welcome!
