dg club University's AI research spans over all our faculties. Research and education in AI-related topics are conducted in collaboration with research groups in a range of different application domains, as well as with industry and organisations in society. The university's AI researchers and doctoral students often work in various national and European research programs and projects.
Umeå University is part of the WASP, the single largest research initiative in Sweden in modern times. The objective is to position Sweden as an internationally recognised and leading nation in the fields of artificial intelligence, autonomous systems and software. The programme is funded by the . There are five partner universities and around 80 industrial partners involved. WASP started in 2015 and will run until at least 2031. Current funding for the programme is SEK 6.2 billion.
Umeå University is hosting the national programme The program aims to strengthen research on AI and autonomous systems from societal and humanities perspectives. The Wallenberg Foundations are investing up to SEK 660 million in the WASP-HS research program. The WASP-HS program is planned to run 2019–2028.
