I investigate the ecological and biogeochemical functioning of northern ecosystems over long timescales (historical to deep-time) using a range of paleolimnological, geochemical, and molecular (ancient eDNA) tools supported by large-scale environmental datasets (GIS, remote-sensing). I have been addressing problems of both local and global relevance affecting our planetary systems, particularly in relation to climate change, such as floods and droughts, polar amplification, and shifts in Arctic lake microbial methane (CH4) dynamics.
In this CTS-funded postdoc position with Nick Kamenos (main PI), Jan Karlsson and Cristian Gusdasz at EMG, I will study the transfer of terrestrial organic carbon along the land-sea continuum. Specifically, I seek to understand the influence of Swedish landuse on historical riverine organic C export and burial in coastal systems of the Baltic Sea.
