At the Department of creative studies, we shape and educate the teachers of tomorrow. Educating woodworking teachers means transferring parts of our cultural and immaterial heritage.
Over the past decade, we have witnessed the emergence of 3D printers, laser cutters, and CNC machines that have revolutionized conditions and possibilities in design, art, architecture, and crafts. To understand the role that digital tools can play in our more traditional and cultural context, we have funded and established a laboratory, sloydlab, through various projects. Here, we explore how these tools can challenge traditional craftsmanship.
As an educator in art and woodworking, with a particular interest in design, form, and color, I teach courses encompassing traditional woodworking, sketch work, and design. In my artistic practice, I explore the intersection of art, design, and crafts. I work across disciplines and boundaries, moving freely between techniques in both analog and digital creation.
In my ongoing artistic project, 'Pushing the Limits of Craft,' I challenge traditional craft techniques by integrating digital design tools within the context of woodworking. By combining traditional craftsmanship and digital design tools, my aim is to bridge the gap between these seemingly distinct realms. I hope to reshape creative and experimental processes and artifacts and challenge conventional approaches within craftsmanship and design.
